Okay, so generally speaking, my customers don't know much about me--I thought this might be fun!! :)

Thanks to LoveOneWorldZero, I bring you the 2008 Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends... (P.S.--Are you kidding me?  We had quite a few of the same answers.)

Welcome to the 2008 edition of getting to know your Friends. Copy and past this in a new blog post, then change all the answers so they apply to you! Leave a comment for me if you do this!

The theory is that you will learn a lot of little things about your friends that you might not have known!

1. What time did you get up this morning?  Yikes... 2:30 to feed the baby, then 5 with the toddler...

Some Advertising Help

All right, I need some advertising help!  I admit it: I'm really great at putting other people's ideas together, but when it comes to designing something for my business, I'm a little lost.
Most of my time goes into creating for OTHER people, so when it comes time to create for myself, I run into issues frequently!!!
I've been putting together a promotional postcard and I'm just not sure if it's getting my point across.

Clearly I'm going for simple & to the point, but what do you think?
I'd love some input just in general, but specifically--I'm wondering is three examples enough?  Does this get my point across that they're customizable for any holiday?  (Oh, and if this is perfect as is, which do you prefer?)

And thanks!

A Lovely Find

Occasionally I run across a website or Etsy shop that just touches me.  If you know me personally, you know I'm hard to impress.  Seriously... I suppose it's the perfectionist in me--I expect everyone to be a perfectionist, too!  I have high expectations!

So if I share something, you can bet it's wonderful!
That being said, take a look at this wonderful business, TLC Inspirations:

At first glance, it may look like your typical greeting card company, but please read the About Us page!  You'll fall in love instantly--I promise!  The company features greeting card designs from THREE generations of their family.  How fabulous is that?  The greeting cards actually feature artwork from two very talented little girls, ages 9 & 12.  And they're beautiful!!  Did your jaw just drop?  I know mine did.

As an added bonus, they use recycled materials wherever possible.

Go take a look and enjoy a very organized website, a huge selection, and most importantly, incredibly original greeting cards.

Happy Handmade Holidays--*UPDATED*

I know you're probably thinking I'm on this crazy holiday kick... well, it's true! I think I mentioned before that I've missed my opportunity in the past, so I'm planning extra early this year!

I thought it would be wonderful to create a little promotional postcard with a few different Etsy sellers' items. I'm still working out the kinks to see how large the photos need to be so I can see how many would fit on the front of a postcard, but here's how I'm envisioning it:

If you'd like to add a photo of one of your holiday items, just let me know! Right now, I'm thinking I'll just have these printed myself and add them in with my orders from now until December, but of course, if you'd like to have some printed, I'll give you the file. Or I could just get more printed & pass some along to you & we'll work out some pricing.
I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible, so just a general holiday theme right now with a photo and an url below. Blank back, but if there are some great ideas out there, please share!! I'm happy to do a Christmas only one, etc.
Thank you for the great response! If you made a comment, I added an item from your shop to the postcard! (Except for "Frannie"--I couldn't figure out who you are! If you see this, please let me know your Etsy shop url and I'll add you!)

WOW! It looks so beautiful and full! :) If you didn't specify an item, I just grabbed something lovely from your shop, so PLEASE let me know if you'd like me to switch it out for something different. I'm happy to! So take a look:
Now, here are a few specifics. It's a 5x7" front & back postcard. It's all set and ready to have printed. I plan on having them printed at because I love, love, love their quality for postcards. If you'd like some, just let me know how many and I'll let you know the price. Or, if you'd like to get them printed yourself, just open these files full size and save them to your own computer. (Or, of course, I can e-mail the files to you directly.)

I'm so excited about this! Thank you for all who participated! :) If you need to contact me, feel free!

A Holiday Preview

I've wanted to do holiday photo cards for years now. Something has always gotten in the way, though--not starting early enough, other projects, lack of photos to use in the examples, etc. I told myself I would absolutely do them this year, though! Since I've been thinking on them for so long, I must have about 8 million ideas stored up in my head...

So I thought it would be fun to have a little preview! There are many more to come!
Thank you to all the dear friends and clients who are allowing me to use their family photos! I'm still looking for some family photos, so if you have some you'd allow me to use in my examples, I'd love it if you'd pass them my way! Thank you!

I'll be adding these to my website and to my Bitsy's Greetings shop on Etsy, so check there soon or, if you already see one you love, just send me an e-mail and let me know!

When your hobby turns into a business...

A lot of the people I come in contact with in the crafting world have taken a hobby and turned it into a business.  I did this, too.  Running a full time business and being a mom to two young children, there is little time to think about "what I do in my free time".  I have let a lot of my other interests and hobbies take a back seat while I raise my children and while I have built up Bitsy Creations.

Today I played the piano.

I took lessons for 10 years.  There were times in my life I'd play for more than three hours a day.  I adored being able to sit and just play.  I think I'd like to get that talent back.

Could someone loan me a few extra hours each week?

A Little Sad

Yesterday, I had someone contact me by e-mail. It seems he thinks I have infringed on his copyright of a particular design. He asked (demanded, "threatened nicely" in my opinion) that I remove this design from my Etsy shop and my website.

It makes me a little sad because I have never met this person in real life. It made me realize that I have only ever met one of my clients/customers in real life. People who know me in real life, know immediately that I am an honest, concientious, sincere, and kind person. I know that sounds like I'm really full of myself, but these are qualities I feel I have been blessed with that make me who I am.

The lovely thing is that many of my clients see this immediately upon working with me. As I've mentioned before, I have the absolute joy of making new friends as we work together to design logos for their businesses.

The thing that made this situation hard for me was that this person doesn't know me. They just see what's "on paper"... and were very quick to point the finger. But what else do you do? As an artist myself, I understand that it would be hard to see work out there that looked like your own. In fact, this HAS happened to me & I ended up giving the other person the benefit of the doubt. Call me too trusting, but that's the decision I made. In truth, I'd hoped I'd receive the same courtesy as some sort of karma effect.

I am a little sad. I'm a little apprehensive, too. Obviously, I'm a little angry, too. I can't imagine being asked to cease selling my own artwork because it is similar. I'm certainly not implying this, but I worry that this person thinks he can intimidate me because he's a "bigger name" than me and has been around longer. Let me assure you I have worked very hard to get where I am. That, of course, is another story for another day. One of my favorite parts about owning my own business is that I am the one that calls the shots. Control freak? Ha! Maybe.

I am taking the appropriate measures which I won't bore you with, but I would appreciate you crossing your fingers for me that this turns out well.
