Dear Holidays...

Dear Holidays,
You may leave now. I got your message loud and clear. I understand now that I must have reached that magic age. No longer can I sit and eat delicious fudge, cookies, candy, and other yummy holiday goodies for days and days and expect to go back to normal. Yes, I received that message when I went to put on some pants and they seemed a bit tighter than usual.
Now I feel old and overweight. Thank you very much.

P.S.--I suppose the real message may have been to enjoy the true meaning of Christmas instead of getting excited about fudge?! :)

Thank You!

After receiving so much this holiday season, two of the most important words I'm trying to teach my children are 'thank you'! We have our list ready and our sitting down (hopefully this afternoon) to write our thank you notes! We were spoiled by friends & family this year!

These are the ones we'll be using from the family. I've also personalized some for each child to use. If you're in need, please stop by and check out the selection of thank you cards from BitsyCreations! You can find them here. Of course, as always, I adore custom requests! If you don't see something you'd like, just give me a shout! I'm also 'beefing up' my website so you can see all the designs on all items: i.e. a design you may love from my invitations will now be available as a greeting card.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful holiday season! Spend some time with some loved ones & enjoy what you've been given in your life. We all have a lot to be thankful for if we stop and ponder for a few moments.

Reach out to those around you and make sure you smile--even if someone cuts you off in that crazy holiday traffic, or cuts in line at the store! ;)

Merry Christmas!

DCP Photography Logo

Yesterday I shared the beginning of a logo design I was working on for a friend. Here's more of the process! This is, of course, much faster than it usually goes. Probably a nice combination of me having known David for quite some time and the fact that he had a very good idea of what he wanted.

He decided H2 was his favorite!

I love how it turned out! He'll probably have a black background on his website, though, so more likely it will look something like this:

I know he'll go far! Good luck, DCP Photography!

Wednesday Already?

Ever have one of those weeks where Wednesday sneaks up on you... but at the same time you wonder if it's the weekend yet? I am having one of those weeks. Wow! Monday came & went in a blur! Tuesday was full of cranky, cranky children! Not sure what happened there. We were all grumpy and there were lots of tears with very little sleep... then Wednesday morning came and voila! We're all better! A week-before-Christmas miracle. :)

Anyway, I've been working on a logo for a friend of mine. He's starting his own photography business. He's been so talented in that area for as long as I can remember, so I'm thrilled for him! I thought I'd share so you could see a little bit of my process. He had some ideas, so I went with those & showed him some of my own. The first ideas are all about brainstorming. Sometimes you just need to SEE something to know you love or hate it.

Then we chatted a bit & I showed him these:

I'll update you along the way! Thought that would be fun. ;)

Dreams of a Crafty Gal...

I'm sure some people out there would think my 'dreams' are a little on the strange side.

Current dream: To have a home office that does not double as the play room.

Wait. Scratch that. I wouldn't mind sharing as long as I had some organization & some space.

I'm sure once I get said space, I'll have a ridiculously hard time deciding how to organize, though.

Above photo is from Flickr--The home office of the lovely Cathe Holden, who I have a crafty crush on. Seriously, the woman is brilliant. I'm in awe whenever I see something she's done.

Need to Order those Cards!

Well, Kids. It's the 11th! That means it's the last day to order your Holiday Photo Cards in order to get them by the 18th. I figure that's enough time for you to get them out to your family & friends. Of course, you can order them later, but you'll get them later, too! (Oh the logic!)

If you order the design only, I can get the file to you within 24 hours for you to print yourself, e-mail, or have printed elsewhere.

Make sure to use code BitsyBlog when you check out to receive 10% off your order at!

The digital files are also, of course, available at Happy Weekend!

Presents? Check!

I finally figured out what to get as Christmas presents. I was really stuck on what to get my sister! Since I come from a family of 11 kids, we just choose one each year & give to one... you know, instead of buying a dozen gifts each year!

On the off-chance she reads this, I'll tell you about it later. I'm pretty excited! :)

My plan was to not step foot in a store to do my shopping this year. Call it lazy if you must... I call it innovative! lol Okay, maybe that's a bit far but I'm happy with the end results! Here are some of my favorites!

The little man in my life likes to steal his big sister's super cape. After seeing the kid run around the house in the pink cape so frequently & having many fights over it, I decided to get one just for him! I went back to the same shop on Etsy: Mahalo. Here's one of her custom capes.

I also got these fantastic cuff links for my husband from digibling! We're going with small gifts this year. Very small! The man can't have enough cuff links, though, in his opinion so I thought, why not?! He saw these awhile back & couldn't stop talking about them.

And MY must-have for my daughter this year (I really wanted something we could do together that wouldn't make my brain turn to mush... can you tell I'm not much of a doll person?) is TINKERTOYS!  Yay! Bitsy #1 is quite a creative little thing. I love it! She's constantly putting together beautiful works of art. If she decides not to be an artist, I bet she'll be an engineer. Here's some practice! ha! :)

I LIVE for Saturdays. Although they are hectic and full of chores, they are MY day where I don't have to share my family with anyone! We had a lovely snowy Saturday! We sledded, made snow angels, and built this handsome snowman with... ears!

We also got to decorate the Christmas tree! We never wanted to do a fake tree but couldn't help it this year since we're with my parents. Still, it was wonderful to pull out each ornament & remember times past. Our sweet Charlie is in love with Christmas! We find him all over the house now taking naps by our various displays.

It sounds like it snowed a lot of places this past week! I hope you're all safely enjoying it!
Please remember if you'd like PRINTED holiday photo cards, they need to be ordered this week. If you're getting the digital version only (to print yourself or send in an e-mail or have printed) it takes me 24-48 hours to get your final proof to you... usually much faster.

(10% off your order at using code BitsyBlog! Holiday photo cards can also be found on Etsy at Bitsy's Greetings.)

Good Will Grace

If you haven't stopped by Good Will Grace, please do! I'm so touched each time I read a post.

This Monday's post was about making an effort to do a little good this holiday season. I know I'm trying a little harder than normal. It will be so good for me. In years past it hasn't been very hard to think about other people. But when things aren't ideal in your own life, it's easy to be selfish and forget to look for opportunities to serve those around you.

I hope you'll make an effort to reach out to people who need a little extra this holiday season--whether it's donating a winter coat, canned goods, taking cookies to a neighbor, or simply smiling at someone who needs it.

It's HERE! 2010 Desk Calendar by BitsyCreations

As promised, the 2010 desk calendar by BitsyCreations is HERE! I'm so excited! I've wanted to do this for years, but am finally doing it for 2010.

My original plan (since it's so late in the year) was to put a few together for my daughter's teachers & some small Christmas gifts. I love how it turned out and decided to put it on my website and on Etsy. Good thing! I just listed last night & one already sold.

Woohoo! Of course, these are available for wholesale and I plan on making a different set next year for the folks in places like Australia where it is not actually snowing in January!! :) If you'd like to order more than one on Etsy, just shout.

And, as always, everything is designed by me and printed by me. So if you really can't stand one of the designs for a particular month or would like a color change, I can arrange an adjustment for you. The joys of small businesses. ;)

Remember! 10% off using code BitsyBlog when you check out at

My Desk Calendar is Almost Done!

I mentioned a few weeks ago (it may have only been on my Facebook page...) that I'm putting together a last-minute desk calendar. It will be too adorable for words.

I'm almost through, but can't contain my excitement. I had originally wanted to do this just for last-minute and teacher gifts this year, but I believe I'll make them available on my website and perhaps in my Bitsy's Greetings shop on Etsy... even though I'll be a little late!

What do you think? :)
(My desk is so bad... I need to borrow someone else's to take better photos!!)

Texting While Driving

Call me a purist, but I stand by my decision to not live on my cell phone. I carry it with me frequently in case of emergency and for Mr. Bitsy to check in. (Yup, I miss him like crazy during the day & adore those lunch-time phone calls.)

This holiday season, I'm sure a lot of us will be traveling. Please, please, please stop texting while driving. I just don't understand this one. What could possibly be so important that you need to text while you are DRIVING?

The kids and I were out a few weeks ago and were almost side-swiped by a very large furniture truck. Guess what I saw when I passed said truck. That's right. The driver was texting. And very often, we'll be stuck behind someone who seems to be driving drunk only to find him or her chatting away on a cell phone.

My family & I would be very grateful if you'd put the cell phones, etc. away while you were driving.

To Be Thankful

I've been so impressed by the outpour of gratitude this Thanksgiving season. I've seen countless Facebook posts where people have offered a daily or weekly list of things they're thankful for. I've seen posts on Etsy. I've seen blog posts. I love it!

Thanksgiving time has always been one of my favorites. Of course, a lot of it has to do with my birthday being in November. I'm also in love with the changing leaves, the smell of coming cold in the air, and sweet little reminders of my childhood.

My mom has these adorable little figurines--some are actually salt & pepper shakers. I remember lining them up time and time again as a child. Now my children are enjoying them at Grandma & Grandpa's house.

As my daughter and my mom pulled out the holiday decorations, I recalled walks next door to my own grandma's house. I used to take this small pumpkin with me and she'd fill it with candy.

I have a very blessed life. I've had a lot of different experiences in my young life. Some have been difficult, but I'm glad for what I've learned. I don't usually consider myself a very religious person... I'm sure anyone who meets me thinks I am, though. We go to church every week, we read scriptures nightly with the children after a story, we pray as a family... It's just such a part of my life that I don't focus on it. I hope God knows how grateful I am for my life and all in it even if I don't express it vocally. I'd imagine He can gather from my actions... at least I hope so.

I'll leave you with this scripture I made a million years ago that we usually display on our fridge this time of year. (You can click on it to make it large enough to read.) Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

A few more holiday designs...

(The Harris comes in a few different colors. I LOVE this one because you can add as many or as few photos as you'd like.)

I said I would and here are a few more holiday designs. I always have so many more ideas than I have time to complete them, so I suppose you'll have a few to look forward to next year. :)

(I officially want a dog after doing this card for a lovely customer of mine. Thank you very much!! ha!)

The big question is going to be which one WE send out this year!
Remember to enter code BitsyBlog when you shop at for 10% off!

(The Fowler also comes in a lovely green argyle pattern--The Jefferson--in case you're interested.)

Really Target, Really?

So many weeks ago I was in Target. I don't usually shop for clothes when we do our Target runs... it usually involves having both of the kids with me and we're in to get something uber-exciting like toothpaste.

BUT I just happened to see some adorable cargo pants, tried them on, fit like a dream, so I purchased them. I wore them about three times that week and fell in love, so I thought I'd go back for the other colors. Of course, they didn't have them in my size, so I ordered them online.

Weeks passed. Yes, weeks. I repeatedly looked online to see when Target would ship the pants & they had given me a window of about a week for when I could expect them.

It's REALLY hard to find pants that fit me, so I was thrilled to have found some so wonderful. I went out to the mail every day to look for them even though I knew they hadn't shipped yet.

Until... yesterday when I got an e-mail from Target saying THEY COULDN'T FIND MY PANTS! Come on!! Why did you let me order them online if you didn't actually have any?! Grrr! Rar!!! Snarl.

If you're a size 0 or 18, you should go get these pants. Apparently those are the only sizes they have left. Boo.

(Too bad I'm so in love with Target that even something like this won't cost them my business...)

(AND you absolutely get extra points if you are laughing at my blog title. Does it drive anyone else crazy when words are repeated like that to supposedly make a point?? "Does it, Bitsy? Does it?)

Happiness Is...

Happiness is...
Playing with your sister's collections while she's at school...
and dumping them all over the floor while Mama has her back turned.

(Sorry I disappeared! We've all passed a nasty cold around this week. I'll be back! Happy Weekend!)

Birthday Favorites Post 2

(There's a new giveaway this week--hop on over to Gifted Giveaways)
In honor of my upcoming birthday, I thought I'd share some of my favorite things--not necessarily things I WANT for my birthday, but just things I enjoy. :)

Today brings my latest media crazes! I love to read, I love music, and I love t.v.! I'd say my interests are pretty wide-spread... though I do lean a little more toward the 'geeky' side of things. :)

Books first? I shared awhile back about reading a blurb in Real Simple by A.J. Jacobs. It's the first time I'd heard of him & I seriously felt I'd been living under a rock! He's amazing! I love all his work I've read so far & believe me--I've been on hyper drive getting my paws on his books.

(image from

I highly recommend The Guinea Pig Diaries: My Life as an Experiment where Jacobs literally turns his life into experiments. LOVE it. (Oh and just as a note--I know some people who read this would like to know that YES there are swear words.)

Music... Ah, music. I used to be one of those people who constantly had music playing. I always knew what was new. I knew the obscure. (Of course, that being said, I cannot stand when people have their ipods on non-stop. Seriously... when do you have time to think or, oh I don't know, communicate with other human beings!?)

But my kids changed my music listening habits & I feel old and out of touch. Still, I have hung on to some favorites and gobbled up the new albums. My latest favorite is Imogen Heap's Ellipse. LONG time fan of Imogen Heap & this album did not disappoint. It hasn't come out of the car since we bought it. :)

And t.v.? Oh gosh, if you have Netflix, grab a good friend and watch The I.T. Crowd. You can watch it instantly on Netflix, but I'm sure you can rent it elsewhere--It's a British Series so there are only 6 episodes each year. Mr. Bitsy & I have never laughed so much. We have an odd sense of humor, but I bet a lot of people out there would like this show who have never heard of it. Actually, I need to look it up again, but apparently they're trying to start a U.S. version now--Richard Ayoade from the U.K. version is even supposed to be in it. He is 100% hilarious. I hope it's okay.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween, everyone! I hope you all have fun! I'm a little sad that we are in a very rural area right now... unless the cows decide to go door-to-door, we won't have trick-or-treaters this year!
The great news is that I just dropped Bitsy #1 off at her Preschool party & got to enjoy lots of adorable little costumes on some of the sweetest little people I've ever met.
We also have plans to go to our church "trunk-or-treat" this evening. Seriously, whoever thought of this idea should get some sort of award. We have a big potluck (usually I'm 100% frightened of potlucks but this one is a chili cook-off--yay!!) and a few indoor games. Then some families decorate their car trunks and the kids walk from car to car. SO nice for the little ones who get tuckered out from walking around neighborhoods.
If the kids make it through all of that I think we'll stop by our old neighborhood to say hello to old neighbors.
Wish us luck!!

Birthday Favorites Post 1

Well, my birthday is coming up. Another year gone by! I've decided to have a little fun this year and share some of my favorite things. Since I spend much of my time on Etsy, I figured I'd focus mostly on some favorites I have there.

These aren't all things I WANT for my birthday (I plan on sharing some of my favorite children's items); they're just some of my favorites.

Today I'll share a few jewelry faves:

I love the simple beauty of this adorable Silver Blossom necklace from Edor. They're having a sale right now--You should stop by. :)
Next, I'll show my fun side. I always said I wouldn't be one of those moms who embarrassed her children with what she chose to wear... What do you think, would this be too much? I am in love with this Biohazard Cuff from RunzwithScissors. She actually doesn't seem to be offering it right now, but I think I may have to request one.

But of course, I have a love for delicate, too, like these lovely aqua & black earrings from FoxyMonster. (I know, my taste is all over the place.)

And of course, so I don't leave the guys out of this one... I am absolutely in love with the shop robandlean. These rings make me want to buy a new wedding band for my husband. Seriously! I chose titanium for my husband when we got married because he works with his hands a lot and I wanted something 'sturdy'. :)
But then I saw these rings with beautiful wood accents. This titanium and wood inlay is one of my favorites:

A few new designs...

I'm sure I've said it before, but my favorite part of doing custom designs for customers is when something DOESN'T work for them! Then I get to make a few changes, make it my own, and put it up on my site! ;) Of course, sometimes I love the new design so much that I put up the one the customer chose, too.

Had a few of these this week that I plan on adding to my site soon. Someone just give me a few hours each day!

Happy Friday!

Happy Tuesday! A few random ramblings from Bitsy today:

First, do you remember you get 10% off your orders from simply by reading my blog? Yay for you! Just enter code BitsyBlog when you check out. This is perfect for holiday photo cards! I've been adding a few more.

Second, there are some excellent giveaways on Gifted Giveaways, the site I started with my dear friend BabyJewels. Make sure to stop by & enter to win! We're also taking gifting hosts right now, too. So if you would like to give away one of your products and get 6 weeks of advertising as well as great exposure, give me a shout. This is a perfect opportunity right before the holidays to let more people know about your shop/website.

And third, it sounds like the dear sweet kitty I blogged about yesterday is ours. :) Kind of a sad story, really. We did find out who the owner was and they don't want him/can't care for him. Ahwell, he has a ridiculously loving family now!!

I'm such a softie...

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had an eventful one for sure! It's been so cold & rainy that we all had a bit of cabin fever! We were all going a bit mad until this adorable little man showed up on Grandma & Grandpa's back porch:

Now, I grew up on a small farm in a pretty rural area... so what do you do when a cat shows up on your porch? Hope it goes home! But we noticed something different about this little man. He was RIDICULOUSLY friendly and clearly had been loved.

Then we looked closer and saw this:

Yes, that's an extra toe. Utter and complete 'awesomeness' in my book. :) You see, when Mr. Bitsy & I got married, he must have said "NO PETS" about 8 million times. We then cat-sat for a friend. The cat we were watching had extra toes like this and was the most adorable little kitty I've ever met. Mr. Bitsy noticed that my stress level went down a few notches simply by having said little kitty wandering around the house.

That's when we got our sweet Muffin cat! It's been a few years & a few cats later, but Mr. Bitsy always stood by the 'one cat at a time' rule. Until he saw this special little guy on my parents' porch!

Guess what he said! "Oh I'd be fine taking him in." I had an audible gasp. Really, I did! So we brought him in out of the rain and played alllll day with the sweet guy. We've put a call in to the animal shelter to make sure he doesn't belong to anyone, but gosh we're having fun with him. I'd love for him to have a happy home, even if that means he belongs to someone else & has to leave us, but mostly I'm just amazed that Mr. Bitsy was so willing! Mostly, I think it's because he's a scientist and has some crazy excitement over the extra toes. I've never heard so many scientific terms in my life!

Funny Things... 16 Oct 09

(Spongebob, of course, belongs to Nickelodeon, not me! I promise!)

I think every mom has a few days where she feels inadequate, maybe even feels like a 'bad mother'. I definitely had that feeling yesterday!
But at least I can laugh about it.
Sigh and then laugh.

With Bitsy #2, I'm trying really hard to only give in to the pacifier desire for nap and bed times. The boy is almost 18 months old. I think he can handle that. I feel like he's a little behind with his speech. I'm blaming it on the pacifier & hoping that by taking it away, he'll be forced to open his mouth for words more. :)

Bitsy #1 is 100% obsessed with Spongebob. She would watch that show non-stop if we'd let her. I doubt she'd even stop for food. So of course, Bitsy #2 is exposed to it.

I didn't realize just how much of it he watched, though! We got these adorable little Spongebob toys--A Spongebob & a Patrick.

Guess who opened his mouth and said "papick" when he was given the Patrick toy.
