I Survived!

I survived the move!! I hope that when we finally buy our home, we stay there for a very VERY very long time. I am so sick of moving!

We were very lucky to have enough help to make everything go smoothly. We appreciate it so much!!! I was so touched that Mr. Bitsy's co-worker came and helped us not only load up the truck but unload, too! What a great friend! We love him! And thank you to the other helpers, too! It made it go so much faster.

So we're unpacking and cleaning the old house. Hopefully everything will be 'normal' by the end of the week! A big thank you to all my customers who have been very patient. ;)

(On a side note--if you haven't heard about Gifted Giveaways, please stop by! There have been some really wonderful giveaways and we have many more in store!)

Custom Designs

I've probably mentioned this before, but I ADORE custom designs. I get so excited when I get an e-mail from someone looking for a specific invitation.

A few weeks ago, one of my dearest friends came to me with such a request! Her sweet little girl is turning 5! Once I got past the shock (sure, my kids can get older, but hers can't!) I accepted. She had the most wonderful idea--I swear, this woman is so full of good ideas! They're going to have a Farmer's Market themed party. They'll even be making jam & fresh pickles! I think I may just have to fly across the country and attend.

So we found this absolutely gorgeous vintage drawing & set up the invitations to look like an old Farmer's Market advertisement, printed on Kraft stock, and voila! I loved how it turned out!

I'm pretty sure I need said friend to work with me again, huh?!

Three Years on Etsy

With all the craziness of the past month, I completely missed my anniversary on Etsy! I openedBitsyCreations.etsy.com three years ago this month! Can you believe it? It's been interesting to see where my shop has gone over the past few years. I started out doing more involved greeting cards--scrappy types with the occasional hand embroidered card. I moved on to add my graphic design services which took off quickly, then split my shop and put my greetings atbitsysgreetings.etsy.com.

The funny thing is that I'll probably start doing some paper embroidery again. It's where I started--It was one of my first loves, but I was running a business, not crafting for fun & just couldn't justify the time. Mr. Bitsy & I were chatting about how he's had his 'big boy job' for awhile now & how he'd be so happy if I could cut back on work time--feel like I was doing it for fun and not feel pressured as I have been in the past.

Don't get me wrong--I ADORE what I do, but there are definitely times I've felt motivated by the financial aspects instead of the creative ones. So now that he's out of school & working full time, Mr. Bitsy says I should get a hobby. hehe What's that?! :)

So perhaps I'll have some more cute embroidered cards in the future. Will probably hang on to them for friends' bdays. :)

Laser Printer Anyone?

I don't know about you, but each time we've moved, it amazes me how much STUFF we have. Before I was married & became a mom, I was 100% simplistic. I loved my shoes & my purses, a few cherished books, but those were the only 'collections' I had. Everything else was the bare essentials.

As the years have passed, people give us things, we pick up little one dollar treasures at the store for the kids, we grab a quick meal every now & again and bring the toys home from the kids' meals... and it all adds up.

So with our move coming up, I've been trying to slim down. I'm probably the favorite person on Freecycle this month. And we took two absolutely huge boxes to Good Will this weekend. Somehow I still feel like we have too much.

Anyway, my point is... does anyone want a laser printer? No, really, I'm serious. I 'upgraded' a few months ago & thought I'd keep the laser around just in case. It's only needed for two projects now & I think I'll outsource on those. If you're interested, give me a shout. (I don't think we'd want to see the shipping bill, so if you're in the greater D.C. area, this is for you!)

Temporary (or maybe not-so-temporary) Wall Decor

Since we're moving in a little over a week, I've been trying to think of something fun to put up in my son's new room. (My daughter already has some really adorable artwork from electricbluebird.etsy.com and an amazing hair barrette holder from princessmimidesigns.etsy.com that take up her wall space nicely!)

And then I stumped on this amazing tutorial from Designs by Vanessa about turning fabric into wall art! So simple and lovely! The perfect solution for a sweet little man's room!

I've always loved japanese kawaii--especially fabric! I almost picked up sewing again just so I could use the adorable kawaii fabric I keep drooling over. (But seriously, I think I'm busy enough with my current artsy interests!)

(This fabric can be found at japankawaiiya.etsy.com)

(This fabric can be found at karaku.etsy.com)

(This fabric can be found at jojoebi.etsy.com)

So if I can ever decide on some fabric(s), I'll post the finished result!

Supporting Other Moms

One of my favorite feelings is supporting other moms who have a business in addition to being a mom. It must be that I'm able to relate to them, but I adore meeting moms who are passionate about what they do--creating children's clothing, making handmade soap, owning a natural parenting store, selling things like Mary Kay or Scentsy... all ranges of work-at-home-moms who go that extra mile to provide for their families.
Not too long ago, I joined our local 'mommy message board'. I ran into a thread about a local mom who used to cut hair professionally & now does it on the side when she can. Her credentials took my breath away. And today she's coming over, the kids will all play together (nicely, I assure you... we had a nice, long chat this morning! lol) and she'll cut my hair. Isn't that fantastic?!
I am more than excited. It's been so long since I got a GREAT hair cut & I'm sure this one will be utterly & completely fabulous. :) I apparently have the worst hair to cut because it's ridiculously thick and somewhere between curly and wavy. Oh and did I mention uber frizzy? It took me four years in North Carolina to find a great stylist. I met her about 2 months before we moved! GAH!
So yes, I'm so so so so so so excited. :) Wish me luck!

Well, Mr. Bitsy & I are going to start exercising. We haven't figured out when or how, but we're going to do it!! I'm practically back to my pre-babies weight, but I'm definitely not as toned as I used to be. I dropped Bitsy #1 at preschool this morning & there was a mom there with a similar 'shape' but way thinner in the regular 'mommy areas' and that was a huge motivator for me!

But when on earth do I do this? Mr. Bitsy leaves early in the morning for work, so that's out. And by the time he's home, we eat dinner, put the kids to bed, I'm absolutely 100% exhausted. Plus, who likes to exercise right before bed?

Yes, I'm totally making up excuses now. Check back in a week, we'll probably have given up. *sigh* Hopefully not! We could totally use some motivation to get healthier around here.

Life's Little Lessons

Life lessons are tough, aren't they?

At this moment right now, my landlord is showing my house. Yeah, the house we moved into only about 7 months ago. The house we expected to buy and live in for many years, raise our children, enjoy our neighbors. We're moving... again! Things just don't always go as planned.

The wonderful thing is that I've been blessed with comfort and I know we're doing what's right for our little family. It's amazing to me to look back on our last year. This will be our THIRD move. In the last 18 months, we had a new baby, Mr. Bitsy graduated from school, lost two cats (lost as in they died, not lost as in I can't find my cat!), moved twice... and now we'll move again and Bitsy #1 will start school. What a roller-coaster of emotions. You just never know what life will throw your way.

The funny thing is that even though I truly loved that house, the thing I will miss the most is Mr. Bitsy working less than a mile away and getting to come home for lunch. So sad. Perhaps we'll surprise him with a picnic while the weather is still nice. :)

Love to all of my lovely repeat customers who are always supportive & who know I take things seriously even though it seems like I'm unstable! Ha!
